KASHMIR NEWS OBSERVER.
Paid affluent and glorious accolade to Gaw Kadal, Maisuma Martyred on 21st January 1990. The mow-down was done after Kashmiri Pandits flee from Kashmir, TSMJK, JKIM & KFM. In a joint statement of Tehreek e Shabab-Ul-Muslimeen JK, Jammu Kashmir Islamic Movement and Kashmir Freedom Movement paid affluent and glorious accolade to those who got martyred at the hands of occupational forces at Gaw Kadal, Maisuma Srinagar, when they came out from their houses and protest against Indian atrocities. The said shameful act was happen when Kashmiri Pandits flee from Kashmir Valley on 19th January 1990, which is clear indication to the people of Kashmir that it was a conspiracy hatched by Indian authorities with the help of the then puppet government to kill Kashmiri people one by one like Gaw Kadal Massacre. Till date no action was taken against those occupational forces who were involved in the mow-down nor any case was registered, but given assurance on part of the then government to take stern action into the matter, but all in vain. The Gaw Kadal mow-down was named after the Gaw kadal bridge in Srinagar, Kashmir, where, on 21 January 1990, the Indian Occupational Forces of Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on a group of Kashmiri protesters called as "worst mow-down/massacre in Kashmiri history". At least 50-100 people were martyred (according to survivors, the actual death toll may have been as high. The massacre happened just a day after the Government of India appointed Jagmohan as Governor for a second time in a bid to control the mass protests by Kashmiris against the illegal occupation of Indian. Thousands of Kashmiris took to the streets in protest, demanding independence. Jagmohan responded by putting the city under curfew. That evening, a large group of protesters shouting pro-independence slogans, reached Srinagar's wooden Gaw Kadal Bridge over the Jhelum River. It was this day, twenty six years ago, when the youngsters couldn’t stand anymore at the crossroads. When people couldn’t bear the humiliation anymore and they came out without any fear. When the shackles of forcible enslavement were twisted and cracked. When the rivers knew they would be flowing with blood. When the graveyards knew they would run out of soil. It was this day that started it all. Jagmohan, the notorious Indian official was appointed as Governor of Jammu Kashmir on January 19, 1990. He had a history of tormenting trouble in Kashmir during his previous appointment as the governor in 1984.
He was known for his Rastriya Sang Sabha leanings. Jagmohan is the person who forced the Kashmiri Pandits to flee from Kashmir just to start mow-down in Kashmir like Gaw Kadal mow-down. People couldn’t bear this humiliation anymore; they came out breaking the curfew in many areas, protesting against this drastic violation of ethics and morality. The people from nearby areas of Maisuma, assembled together and took out a procession. Young and old, filled with anger came on the streets. Bubbling with the sentiment of freedom, the slogans sent sound waves which broke the cold air. Teenager skipped his tuition classes to be part of protests at Maisuma. It was hard to not be a part of the protests. He was spirited with passion of freedom. He was at the forefront of the protests. “Allah Hu Akbar” resonated in the skies. The Killing of January 21st 1990 at Gaw Kadal bridge, in Srinagar Qualifies as the first major & worst slaughter of Kashmiri Muslims by trigger-happy Indian Occupational Forces. In this incident the number of Killed varies from 50 to 100-Some by direct firing & others by drowning after they jumped into the river. In that respect it bears resemblance to mow-down at JallianwallahBagh where many protestors died by jumping into the nearby well. The chairman’s and senior members of the respective parties have said that we will fight against the illegal occupation till its logical conclusion and will sacrifices the lives just for cause of Kashmir.
